(This isn't exactly a 'new review' or anything, but!) Last night I went to "South Pacific" at Lincoln Center and it totally rocked! Srsly, if u have any inclination to take in an old-time 'Rogers and Hammy' u shd go. I was a lil worried it would be a 'snoozefest' but the production was nimble, the story rlvnt (via transcending racial stereotypes) and the actors all 'triple-threats' (singing/acting/dancing). Nellie was played by 'Laura Osnes' who was blonde/southern/sassy/earnest (via Sookie Stackhouse) and Emile was played by 'David Pittsinger' who was a charmingly suave French older dude.
And oh yeah, the sailors were H-O-T (but not in a stereotypical geigh model/'morning goods' way), the nurses hi-larious and the production was kinda 'gayed up' 2 make it even more rlvnt.
On the way there, we walked through the maze of construction at Lincoln Center and ended up in a new allay of sycamore trees obv meant to recall the Tuillieries. When we left the theater, the trees seemed to be hovering as we floated by. (Wish I had my camera, maybe next time...)
