Today I woke up and went to work. As sometimes happens when you've just recovered from a cold, I felt strangely productive! Someone asked me for a document and I found it and e-mailed it back to her in less than 2.4 seconds. I presented my boss with an innovative, nuanced solution to a vexing problem that will improve record keeping and improve divisional relationships. The mortgage broker called and I was hardly bothered when he told me that the 'underwriter' needed an official 'VoE' -- Verification of Employment -- even though I had just submitted two years of pay checks. 'No problem,' I said, and effortless dialed an HR representative who supplied me with a fax number that I e-mailed to the mortgage broker. Time passed.
At lunch I went to the gym and ran three miles on the tread mill. My left knee -- which has been bothering me for the better part of a year -- felt almost 100 percent better. I did three sets of twenty push-ups! (Ok, so I did spend a certain amount of time visualizing my funeral, and decided that I almost certainly would want several songs from Bedhead's 'WhatFunLifeWas' LP to be played.)
Tonight I returned home and spent time with Dante and Zephyr and Elektra. Someone threw up on one of the new rugs and Dante coughed a little, because he has asthma. Stephen made his famous Caesar Salad, which we ate while watching one of the Top Chefs make a 'deconstructed' version of the same. I remained mystified by the popularity of 'Penn and Teller,' the celebrity guests.
Tomorrow I'm flying to Pittsburgh, where I will spend time in my parents' garden, which I intend to examine closely, looking for signs of myself -- my past and future -- therein. It will be lonely sleeping there without the cats, both small and large, but I will be back on Sunday, and I am sure they will all remember me.
This photo series is beautiful.
